From the Sacramento Business Journal (Sacramento, CA):

Deep discounter Grocery Outlet seeks up to 10 sites in region

Grocery Outlet says it is seeking up to 10 new store locations in the Sacramento region this year.

The Berkeley-based deep discounter already has 10 stores in the four-county region, with another scheduled to open in the summer at 17th Street and Capitol Avenue in midtown Sacramento. Grocery Outlet signed a lease two weeks ago for what has been the site of Rick’s Uptown Market.

Grocery Outlet has retail brokerage Retail West Inc. looking for additional sites of 12,000 to 18,000 square feet, said Retail West broker Bill Perkins, who, with fellow broker Stuart Snider, is representing Grocery Outlet. Perkins said he thinks they have landed on a site in Davis. He declined to reveal which other local communities Grocery Outlet is targeting.

Grocery Outlet is a family-run company with about 135 stores, most of which are operated independently by locally based families. The chain is benefiting from consumers’ desire to save money during the tough economy, and a retail industry trend of late toward smaller stores.

In the past five years, Grocery Outlet has added stores in Folsom, Citrus Heights, Roseville and Elk Grove.
