January 2012 will mark 10 years for Brian and Amie Baldy as Grocery Outlet Independent Store Operators. Prior to becoming an operator, Brian worked for the Eureka California Grocery Outlet from 1991-2001. He started out as a grocery stock clerk and spent 8 years as store management. Amie spent 6 years with Costco Wholesale Warehouse in Eureka, California, holding various positions including 4 years as their business relations representative. In that time, she built strong professional relationships with their large resale members and managed their accounts, hosted marketing events, and helped grow the business membership base. In her experience as a front-end supervisor of a 16 register check-out, she was quickly inspired to take on becoming an Independent Operator of a Grocery Outlet store.
After completion of business operations training, they operated their first store in Newark, California, for a year and a half. When The Dalles was presented as a new store opportunity, they both felt it would be the perfect setting for raising their children. Together, they have three children who attend elementary school. The Dalles community has been very welcoming and friendly. Both of the Baldys grew up in Northern California in small communities, so The Dalles has proven to be the perfect fit for them.
Brian and Amie enjoy supporting nonprofit organizations and being involved with community events. They support many causes, one of which is the Home at Last Humane Society. They provide ongoing support with an in-store donation drop-off site for needy animals. They donate a "food for thought" themed tree to be auctioned at the Festival of Trees for Mid-Columbia Health Foundation annual fundraiser. Brian and Amie support many other organizations—Windy River Gleaners, Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul of The Dalles, Habitat for Humanity, Mid-Columbia Health Foundation, St. Mary’s Catholic Academy, Covenant Christian Academy, The Next Door, Inc., Big Brothers Big Sisters, Riverside Gymnastics, all of the local school districts, and The Dalles Little League.
Like all great Grocery Outlet operators, Brian and Amie put their customers and their workers first. Brian and Amie host their Store Anniversary Celebration every August. They plan a very exciting day of events for both children and adults, and as one of the grand prizes, Brian and Amie buy a customer’s entire order of groceries!
Brian and Amie operate a store where everyone wants to come and shop. The Dalles Grocery Outlet is clean, always stocked, and offers such exceptional customer service that shoppers always leave with a smile. Brian and Amie would like to say, “A huge thank you to all of our loyal customers. We invite anybody who has not come in to come explore what you have been missing out on. And prepare yourself to be impressed!”
