Say hello to Arthur Schmidt, the operator of the Grocery Outlet located in Sonora, California. While working on his education in 1980, Arthur was hired as an employee at the Redmond Grocery Outlet in Oregon. He stayed with the company through his schooling and he never left! After working his way up in the stores, Arthur began operator training. He has operated a number of Grocery Outlets over his career and took over the Sonora store in 2007.

Arthur never forgets the reasons why he became an operator—to interact with his customers, help the community, and improve the lives of all of his shoppers. He is dedicated to being part of the Sonora community and currently supports the Future Farmers of America, the local high school sport programs, and even the children of the town. Every year in Sonora there is a county fair where animals are auctioned off. These animals have been raised by the children living in Sonora and the proceeds go to their education. At each auction, Arthur buys a variety of animals and has the meat prepared. He then raffles off the meat and even provides a freezer to it to be kept in! Arthur loves doing this because he is able to positively affect the lives of both the children and his customers.

Arthur’s daughter manages his store and his wife is a part-time assistant. With their help, Arthur works hard to provide the people of Sonora with the unique opportunity to have quality groceries at a discount price. If you have not visited Arthur yet he would like to say, “Stop by and check out the great bargains.” He enjoys getting to know his customers and would like to get to know you as well.
