Say hello to Dwayne and Jennifer Bishop, the operators of Grocery Outlet located in Southwest Bakersfield. Dwayne and Jennifer have been operators since 2002. When Dwayne first started out, he worked as a freight receiver for the original Bakersfield location. After meeting and marrying Jennifer, who was a cashier in the store, Dwayne advanced through management and soon after, the two became store operators of the second Bakersfield location...

What Dwayne and Jennifer enjoy most about owning their own Grocery Outlet is their involvement within the Bakersfield community. Annually they sponsor a massive spaghetti dinner held at the local middle school, in which all proceeds fund the music department. They also participate in food drives with Salvation Army in the winter, many church donations, and Girl Scout events! Their store also donates to elementary schools in the district by supporting annual carnivals, and donating pumpkins for decoration during the holidays.

Although Bakersfield is a large community, Dwayne and Jennifer give their store a small-town feel. By making the effort to learn customers’ names, the couple has established a strong personal bond with people throughout their community. In the back of their store, they keep a bulletin board with pictures of their awesome customers, both current and passed. This way, Dwayne and Jennifer will never forget the faces that made their store amazing.

Dwayne’s mother and brother work with them to make the Southwest Bakersfield Grocery Outlet fun and family-friendly. Dwayne and Jennifer would like everyone to come and check out the store.
